ALLEVIATING HUMAN SUFFERING AROUND THE WORLD FOR MORE THAN 200 YEARS
We stand at a crossroads of unprecedented national and global crisis.
Racism and sexism, climate change, and the largest forced migration crisis since World War II threaten human safety and dignity. Every day, these injustices are compounded by shifting geopolitical landscapes and evolving U.S. governmental policies that run contrary to fundamental Christian values.

FIVE KEY AREAS OF HUMANITARIAN NEED THAT DEMAND OUR URGENT RESPONSE TODAY:
Founded in 1940 in response to the needs of millions displaced by World War II, UMCOR joined Global Ministries’ now 200-year- old legacy of responding to the unprecedented humanitarian needs of our neighbors around the globe.
Thanks to people like you, UMCOR—a unit of Global Ministries—continues its legacy of providing life-giving financial assistance, training, and community collaboration to not only help people journey to self-sufficiency but also to empower their resilience.
Together, we can meet this pivotal moment with hope and action.
It would be easier to walk away. But our faith and our Methodist legacy have prepared us “for a time such as this” (Esther 4:14).
We have a moral imperative to firmly uphold the gospel message and welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, and tend to the sick.
Thanks to partners like you, Global Ministries and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a unit of Global Ministries, have been privileged to walk alongside millions of survivors, helping them move from disaster and loss to stability and abundant life.
Respond to the gospel call to action today. We have been prepared by our faith and our forebearers for a moment such as this.
Join us in bravely standing up for the inherent dignity of every human being. Let us not weary of doing good. Together, let us love, welcome, and liberate our neighbor.

FORCED
MIGRATION
1
Forced migration means becoming homeless, stateless, and outcast. It means days and nights filled with terror and despair. The forcibly displaced do not leave by choice but rather flee acute poverty, war and civil conflict, and natural and manmade disaster. Many escape with young children and little more than the clothes on their backs.

AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS
2
Tragically, a recent United Nations report demonstrates that global efforts to eliminate hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition are “moving in reverse,” with more people than ever suffering from these debilitating realities. Sadly, children suffer the most. This downward trajectory combined with the elimination of USAID’s once key investment in the World Food Program makes our efforts to improve food security and sustainable livelihoods more important now than ever.

EDUCATION
3
Knowledge empowers people to make informed decisions and positive contributions to society. John Wesley believed that education should be accessible to all regardless of birth or financial means. Historically, Methodists have helped advance educational opportunities for marginalized people and contributed to the common good by founding many respected Methodist-related schools, colleges, and universities.

GLOBAL HEALTH INITIATIVES
4
The U.S. government’s dismantling of most foreign aid has been catastrophic for vital health initiatives, resulting in significant loss of life. The ongoing impact will be felt for generations. The terminated programs include $880 million for the Vaccine Alliance and $262 million for the UNAIDS HIV program. These eliminations have raised concerns among experts about the potential exacerbation of global health crises.

PEACE AND STABILITY
5
Many areas of the world are under siege. Places like Gaza, D.R. Congo, Ukraine, and Sudan continue to suffer under ongoing bombardment and warfare. And once again, the dramatic reduction to U.S. foreign aid is exacerbating the suffering of people in these and other war-torn regions.
