HOW PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE SPEAKING
UP FOR DISPLACED IMMIGRANTS
Welcome and care for the stranger in our midst by partnering with UMCOR in faith
Be inspired and learn how Danilo went from abandoned child to hope-filled adult
When Danilo arrived in the United States fleeing violence he was a 13-year-old unaccompanied minor.
He looked small and frightened, Danilo’s UMCOR-supported immigration attorney recalls. Young and burdened beyond his years.
Today, at 19, Danilo towers over his attorney. Thanks to the help of people like you, Danilo has found a home in the United States safe from the violence back home.
Danilo works on home construction and is saving for college. He is considering studying engineering.
When you give, you show compassion to the stranger.

Although individuals and families fleeing trauma have a legal right to apply for asylum in the United States, changing U.S. immigration policy is unfairly targeting people like Danilo.
In response, Global Ministries and UMCOR signed onto a bold ecumenical call to action on March 4, 2025 titled The Ash Wednesday Ecumenical Declaration: Defending Refuge.
Your gift will strengthen UMCOR’s efforts to educate our immigrant brothers and sisters on their rights and provide vital bail money for wrongly incarcerated victims.
This work is only possible thanks to the generous support of people like you.

FOR JUSTICE
“Speak out on behalf of the voiceless, and for the rights of all who are vulnerable.”
–Proverbs 31:8 (CEB)
With your gift, you speak up on behalf of the voiceless.
Central to our faith in God and to the teachings of Jesus Christ is the call to welcome the stranger and care for those seeking safety and a better life.
Although Danilo has no local family, he does have a lot of friends. He is especially close with teammates from his community soccer league.
Thanks to people like you, Danilo smiles a lot these days. He has plans for the future and is working hard to fulfill them.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU STAND UP
The declaration underscores the Methodist Church’s collective stand for justice, recognizing that the United States’ acceptance of the displaced and persecuted is inseparable from its immigrant-centric history.
To this end, UMCOR has increased its investment in ministry partners in Mexico, Central America, and the United States dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance and legal help to migrants and asylum seekers.

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, a recent UMCOR grant is establishing a sophisticated “Removal Defense Unit” to educate and train legal staff in the specifics of fast-changing national immigration policy.
The grant will also invest in robust trauma-informed care services for practitioners.
People like you have helped thousands of individuals like Danilo by providing people fleeing violence with the expert legal services most cannot afford.
