Sharing Jesus Christ’s Radical Hope in Burundi and Beyond

Every day, members of the community—the young, old, able-bodied, and handicapped—picked up the biggest rocks and stones they could carry and added them to a growing pile.

They did this hoping that someday a health center could be built. Women and children were dying from the rampant malaria and cholera incubating in the community’s water supply. There was no access to a well or spring—only shallow areas of run-off river water where mosquitos loved to breed.

Visiting Global Ministries missionary Patrick Abro watched the pile of stones in Gahambwe grow.

When you give, you empower more communities like Gahambwe.

Recommit to God’s Mission

Adapted by John Wesley from his parents’ Puritan tradition, the Wesley Covenant Prayer closely informed Wesley’s preaching and was often used at the New Year in affirmation of the call to love God and neighbor. The prayer was recited at the January 2025 commissioning service of 18 Global Ministries missionaries and 5 young adult Global Mission Fellows. Download the prayer below and consider making a personal recommitment to furthering God’s mission.

“Although they had no money for the work, they hoped that a health clinic might be built there, and they put that hope in God.”

Give Radical Hope

He was moved to tears by the people’s radical hope in God and faith in an outcome they could not yet see.

Transforming a Pile of Rocks into a Place of Hope and Healing

Today, Gahambwe has a fully equipped health center and freshly dug well.

Early this year, Global Ministries commissioned 18 more missionaries and 5 young adult Global Mission Fellows at a service at the Wananga Central United Methodist Church in Jinja, Uganda.
